With the TD 124 DD, Thorens is reviving one of its most legendary models. The successful basic concept of the original TD 124 has been consistently further developed with modern approaches and now enables a completely new playback quality.

The TD 124 was first introduced in 1957 and served for decades in countless radio studios around the world. But also. ambitious music lovers quickly discovered the extremely precise turntable for use at home; a committed fan base has remained loyal to the legendary record player to this day.

Thorens is now building on this tradition with the completely newly developed TD 124 DD and continuing it with innovative technologies. The puristic design and the basic construction are based on the original, but the height-adjustable aluminum chassis now rests on vibration-damping rubber elements. Instead of the original drive with friction wheel and belt, a “High Precision” direct drive is used in the new TD 124 DD. This has a powerful torque, enables precise control of the speed and keeps disruptive influences of the drive away from the turntable.

The TP 124 tonearm, which is also new, can be precisely adjusted in all parameters to the cartridge used and has an innovative anti-skating solution with ruby bearings. In addition, the developers have given the TD 124 DD a patented new electric tonearm lift, which ensures that the needle is inserted and removed gently.

In addition to the extensive setting options, the enclosed headshell ensures a lot of flexibility when choosing the pickup. The scope of delivery also includes an additional, somewhat heavier counterweight that fits the Thorens SPU TD 124 cartridge, which is available separately. This is a version of the legendary Ortofon SPU that is specially tailored to the TD 124 DD and that Thorens developed together with Ortofon for fans of the special.

Thorens has consistently developed the new TD 124 DD for the highest sound demands. A high-quality external power supply provides a trouble-free power supply, for connection to high-end systems, in addition to the unbalanced outputs, there are also balanced XLR connections that guarantee optimal signal transmission and therefore the best possible sound with an appropriately equipped phono preamplifier.
